Chapter Six: The Lost Knowledge of Chardok

Image
The first thing Caradawc learned about Chardok was that nobody truly understood it. The city rose from the mountains like the remains of a forgotten empire. Massive walls guarded ancient roads. Vast halls disappeared beneath the earth. Every adventurer arriving at its gates carried stories of hidden treasures, ancient magic, and lost knowledge. Most of those stories proved wrong. The reality was far more dangerous. Chardok was not a dungeon. It was a city. A living fortress defended by disciplined Sarnak warriors who fought with intelligence, organisation, and ruthless determination. The first expeditions ended badly. Groups entered with confidence and returned battered. Others failed to return at all. Healers exhausted themselves keeping wounded companions alive. Warriors fell. Spellcasters vanished into the darkness. The city resisted every attempt to uncover its secrets. Yet the adventurers kept coming. From Antonica. From Faydwer. From Odus. Every road in Kunark seemed eventually t...

Chapter Five: Into the Burning Land

Image
The voyage from Velious to Kunark took many days. As the ship cut through the waters of the Ocean of Tears, Caradawc spent long hours standing at the rail watching the endless horizon. Beside him, Izzy often spoke of the places she hoped to see, while Sunflower and Skittlesz debated which of the stories they had heard about Kunark were most likely to be true. Most agreed on one thing. Kunark was different. Older. Wilder. More dangerous. The continent had only recently become widely accessible to the peoples of Norrath, and stories of ancient kingdoms, lost magic, and forgotten treasures had spread rapidly across Antonica, Faydwer, and Odus. By the time the ship finally entered the harbour of Firiona Vie, Caradawc understood why. The docks were crowded with adventurers. Humans from Qeynos and Freeport. Dwarves from Kaladim. Elves from Kelethin and Felwithe. Erudites from Odus. Barbarians from the frozen north. Dozens of expeditions were forming and reforming throughout the settlem...

Chapter Four: The Call of the Wild

Image
The journey to Qeynos and the completion of his initiation had changed Caradawc in ways he was only beginning to understand. The Symbol of the Tribunal hung proudly around his neck, and the magical hammer it could summon had become a trusted companion. Yet despite his growing confidence, he could not shake the feeling that his education was incomplete. The spirits seemed restless. In dreams he saw wolves standing silently among ancient trees. Hawks circled above distant forests. Great bears watched him from the edge of moonlit clearings. Again and again the same images returned. Eventually the signs became impossible to ignore. The spirits were calling him south. The road led him to Surefall Glade. Hidden deep within the forests of Antonica, the glade felt different from the cities and settlements Caradawc had visited. Here there were no merchants shouting their wares, no guards patrolling walls, and no adventurers boasting of their latest victories. The trees themselves seemed ancient...

Chapter Three: The Splitpaw Campaign

Image
The Fellowship of Everfrost had served its purpose. The mammoth hunts were complete. The gigantic ice spiders had been driven back. The mysteries surrounding the Splitpaw messenger discovered in Blackburrow still lingered unanswered. Eventually Kazin and Dragoness chose to pursue their own adventures elsewhere in Norrath. The parting was friendly, but it left only three companions determined to follow the trail south. Caradawc. Cymru. Izzy. Together they crossed the Karanas in search of the distant gnoll stronghold whose influence had already reached Blackburrow. Eventually they found it. Splitpaw. The entrance alone hinted at the dangers waiting within. This was no crude burrow dug into the earth. The tunnels stretched deep beneath the plains, defended by organised and disciplined gnolls far stronger than those encountered in Blackburrow. The three companions descended cautiously into the darkness. At first progress was slow but steady. They fought their way through the outer tunnels ...
